Peabody Elementary

Dallas ISD

Replacing a century-old school in Oak Cliff meant more than building new—it was a chance to honor a legacy. George Peabody Elementary has long anchored its community, and the new design continues that role with deep respect for place, scale, and identity. On a tight 3.4-acre site, a compact, two-story layout preserves open space and reflects the neighborhood’s residential character, with a front porch-style entry that feels welcoming and familiar. The design draws from the nearby Bishop Arts District, incorporating dark brick, metal, and local art to reflect Oak Cliff’s creative energy. Planned through virtual charrettes during the pandemic, the school embodies shared values of connection, adaptability, and well-being. Exposed systems and durable finishes help students understand how buildings work—and support long-term value.
